WElcome to the hygge & cwtch blog

Hello, I am Annie and this is my Hygge & Cwtch blog created in Wales and inspired by the Danish hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) way of life. I believe a lot of goodness flows from choosing to live in the moment and take things simple and slow. We all need a bit of time and space to relax, take comfort and enjoy the good things in life with good people.  I believe connecting with nature's beauty and nurturing power and indulging in moments of everyday joy is a true tonic.

Hygge and Cwtch Design Studio was born and bred in Cardiff, Wales. Run from our garden studio in the north of the city, we’re proud of our roots in the Welsh capital. We feel lucky to have a vibrant city on our doorstep, sandwiched between countryside and coast, and the beautiful country of Wales and […]

We’ve got that new season feeling here at Hygge & Cwtch Design Studio. March brings the early blooms, the longer days and lighter nights. That undeniable sense of optimism for a bright and sunny season ahead. With these feelings of change and excitement, we always look for new ways to enjoy our home and to […]

There’s nothing quite like the final two months of the year. Wrapping up against the cold air. Wet welly walks. Christmas shopping. Festive celebrations. School plays. Muddy football matches. An abundance of reasons to go out and connect with people and with nature. But with that, comes an unrivalled yearning for a warm, cosy sanctuary. […]

Who’s ready for Autumn? The most hygge season of them all is fast approaching! While the heatwave may be over and we are ready for some cosy Autumn moments, we still feel the pull of the garden and outside space. And as we retreat back into our homes and the ‘confines’ of the building we […]

On the eve our six year anniversary since establishing Hygge and Cwtch Design Studio, we are going right back to the beginning to look at our first completed architectural and interior design scheme. We are very proud of this project and it has a special place in our hearts. Project Name Heolgerrig The Property A […]

It’s been almost six years since we launched the Hygge & Cwtch brand. In that time, we’ve worked on numerous interior design jobs, from small space planning to full house turnkey projects. Each of these projects have helped us to develop and hone a signature interior style. Not something that we intentionally set out to […]

One of our signature interior design styles here at Hygge & Cwtch, is colour blocking. It’s a versatile trick which can transform the look and feel of a space with minimal effort or cost. We talk a lot on our blog about how we design for the five senses, with texture and pattern being integral […]

Designing a sustainable home is central to our ethos here at Hygge and Cwtch. Our passion for creating ‘healthy’ homes – evoking the five senses and enabling a positive lifestyle – is driven by our love and connection to nature. The use of natural materials and our relationships with suppliers and crafters who are mindful […]
