In recent years we’ve had the opportunity to not only work on beautiful homes, but on a number of holiday lets in the Wales and Cornwall regions. Properties designed for holiday-makers who want to enjoy the region with a comfortable, aesthetically-pleasing base to retreat to. We’re proud to say that the holiday-lets that we’ve designed all have 5* reviews, with ‘Superb’ and ‘Guest Favourite’ ratings from paying customers, accompanied by positive mentions of the design and decor. Good holiday let design can really elevate a property, leading to glowing recommendations and a fully booked calendar.

What’s the difference between residential and holiday let design?

Holiday let design has it’s own set of challenges compared to residential interior design. Of course, our interior design style and approach is baked into our brand. But holiday lets have a different set of practical considerations.

Used by multiple people, potentially all year round, the materials used need to be extra robust and durable. Everything need to be easily cleaned or maintained, rather than repaired or re-done. It’s a business after all, and having to replace items or re-paint rooms to keep standards high and meet expectations just isn’t feasible. So while the interior design approach may be no different – other than knowing it needs to appeal to a wider audience, rather than just the homeowner – it’s the practical considerations which make holiday let design something of a specialty.

Some of our Hygge & Cwtch-designed holiday lets…

Lahaina

Our Lahaina project got a huge response when we revealed it exclusively in our April Edition newsletter in 2023. A stunning 5-bed property on the coast in St Ives, Cornwall, we were hired to give the property the wow factor and make it a must-stay property in the area.

We delivered a cosy, fresh, coastal vibe, with the usual dose of colour and comfort that you’d expect from a Hygge & Cwtch design. We took into consideration the space needed for all the potential occupants, reconfiguring the kitchen to create a better and more open flow. Two generous, comfy seating areas for relaxing, a large dining area and an outside space for eating, connecting and enjoying time together. The design effort continued upstairs with calming, uniquely designed bedrooms with all the storage and facilities they’d need to make it a true home from home.

5* reviews for Lahaina…

“Really well presented and designed property. Felt immediately at home and a great entertaining space. The owners have obviously taken a lot of time and effort to make this a great holiday home.”

“The house is finished to a very high standard throughout and feels luxurious but equally very homely. It is very well equipped; a lot of thought has gone into ensuring guests have all they need.”

The property has been newly renovated and is beautifully done with incredible attention to detail, and no expense spared. We loved the decor and all the little touches that gave it personality and made it feel homely.

Rose Cottage

Another holiday let design in St Ives, this time in the heart of the town centre. Rose Cottage is a two-bedroom cottage on a quiet street, close to the hustle and bustle of this Cornish town. The brief was to create a sanctuary which was fitting with the style of the building and the coastal town setting. A considered design, filled with simple details and comforting touches to aid peace, rest and relaxation.

5* reviews for Rose Cottage…

“The house is beautifully decorated throughout and the kitchen is incredibly well stocked for a family beach holiday. We absolutely loved staying here.”

“Rose Cottage exceeded all of our expectations, it was immaculately presented and had everything that we needed for a comfortable family holiday in this special little town.”

“The rooms are beautifully appointed and have been tastefully decorated with a seaside theme and the kitchen wants for nothing.”

Newgale

Overlooking blue flag Newgale beach, surrounded by nature this studio apartment, The Hide, in West Wales, is one of a kind. A subterranean building which blends in seamlessly with it’s surroundings from the view above. It’s a perfect example of how small spaces can still have maximum impact.

The priority in this studio was to maximise the feeling of space by using clever storage and layout options. A sliding barn door to free up floor space. A mini dining nook, just enough for seats for the guests but still giving them the option of different seating areas. A simple low-level partition with in-built storage to create a feeling of separation between spaces while still providing unobstructed views.

Our design style for this was simple Scandi chic, cosied up with furnishings from local Welsh makers. Natural materials and simple shapes and a soft colour palette allow the star of the show to shine – the view out of those 7 metre sliding doors is really something special.

We brought in some unexpected, contemporary pattern with large scale terrazzo tiles, also reflected in the table in the space-savvy dining nook. It’s these little touches and attention to detail which elevate a space from being a nice holiday-let to guests re-booking before they even leave and telling all their friends about this hidden gem.

Our 3D visuals were used to implement our designs on site and to give the clients confidence in how the final space will look. Below we show the 3D renders on the left (by Hygge & Cwtch) next to photography of the finished space on the right (photography from Airbnb).

5* reviews for Newgale…

“Calm, relaxing with a beautiful interior and view. Thank you.”

“Had an amazing stay at The Hide. A beautifully designed property with everything you could possibly need and incredible views.”

“The views are unbelievable and the accommodation is designed beautifully to enjoy and fit into the landscape. It is luxurious but cosy and comfortable and lots of lovely touches like the welcome basket.”

West Grove City Centre Apartments

We’ve featured our West Grove apartments on the blog many times. The colourful, cosy aesthetic encapsulates the Hygge & Cwtch signature style. Four uniquely designed yet cohesive apartments, with bright, welcoming and thoroughly considered design. Nothing is overlooked when we design for the holiday let market, ensuring guests have the best possible stay every time.

5* reviews for West Grove…

“Very well maintained, simple, tasteful. Everything I needed was there and self explanatory.”

“The aesthetic of the apartment was very hip and they nailed it well! The bed was very comfy and the living room very cosy... Perfect stay for our visit for Cardiff 10k.”

“What a beautiful property! Had a lovely modern feel and was so well laid out… Will definitely be back!”

Amroth Project

Finishing off the post with a more recent project in West Wales. Still in the development phase, we created 3D visuals as part of our design process. Always helpful for residential design, but even moreso when interior design is a business investment. We can’t wait to see this one come together!

Do you have a property that you want to put on the holiday-let market? Get in touch to talk about how we can help.
