We have clients in Wales and Cornwall and are increasingly working online so we can help you remotely. Our studio combines Annie's love for art and interiors and Richard's 20 years of architectural design experience and passion for garden design.
We love to help you bring warmth and a cosy feeling into your home. We do this through a mix of old and new and using natural materials and textures. We love neutral palettes with colour splash accents to add mood and interest. Lighting is key, both maximising natural light and carefully thought through lighting schemes. Finally, we add layering through integrating artwork, soft furnishings, planting and handcrafted items. Our look is lived in and slightly undone. We use design to create welcoming and comfortable homes for real people to enjoy their everyday moments in. We quite like a bit of imperfection and encourage clients to embrace it, enabling them to relax and enjoy their home.
We love Scandinavian style with an emphasis on a natural, uncluttered and timeless aesthetic. Our work is inspired by nature and we aim for our calming and soothing spaces to nurture those who live in them.
I am Annie and I run Hygge and Cwtch Design Studio. I am a self-taught artist and an interior designer with a combined love for making beautiful calming spaces and art inspired by my natural surroundings. I love the Danish hygge meaning the art of homeliness and all its warm connotations and link with feelings of being connected. To me it has synergies with cwtch and being wrapped in the warmest of Welsh hugs. The Danish have a long history in great design and their love of light and natural materials inspires our work. My own passion for art, colour, shape and texture shows through in my interior design work. My early career as a solicitor and substantial experience as School Manager in the Welsh School of Architecture have given me a great grounding in running projects and business.
Plants, especially my acer trees, silver birch and star jasmine, birdsong always makes me feel happy, sharing a coffee or gin and tonic with my friends, getting lost in the music and dancing like a fool, the sun and travelling to places, new and old, the beach you know Cornish beaches are a fave, art, design and garden books and magazines, a wander around a great independent shop or art exhibition, getting inspired and a good coastal or landscape walk with my family and CJ Rockstar my labradoodle.
