Hello, I am Annie and this is my Hygge & Cwtch blog created in Wales and inspired by the Danish hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) way of life. I believe a lot of goodness flows from choosing to live in the moment and take things simple and slow. We all need a bit of time and space to relax, take comfort and enjoy the good things in life with good people. I believe connecting with nature's beauty and nurturing power and indulging in moments of everyday joy is a true tonic.

As many of us often do at this time of year, I’ve spent some time lately reflecting on what turned out to be quite a special year. This time 12 months ago, I made a very intentional decision to find true alignment in my life and my interior business. To prioritise my health and wellbeing. […]

Unlocking a house’s full potential, or helping clients fall back in love with their homes, are both core parts of our work here at Hygge and Cwtch Design Studio. Often, the most powerful way to do this is with well-considered, intentional space planning. The way a space is used and the flow in and between […]

As the nights close in and the weather encourages us to retreat indoors, Autumn invites us to slow down and turn inwards. A clear contrast to the buzz of long summer days and social plans. Autumn is a time to reconnect with ourselves and our homes. As a wellbeing-led interior design studio we’ve come to […]

The best way we can describe our recently completed Porthcawl project, is “an elegant mid-century bolt-hole with a killer view and the signature Hygge & Cwtch touch”. Overlooking the Royal Porthcawl golf course and the rugged Welsh coastline beyond, it’s a gem of a property which we have loved bringing to life for our lovely […]

If there’s one place in the UK that never fails to inspire and delight us, it’s Cornwall. Within reasonably easy reach from Hygge & Cwtch’s home town of Cardiff, it’s our go-to staycation, the place we go to visit family, see new sights and re-visit old favourites. We’re also regularly in the area to deliver […]

We’re delighted this month to share our work on a recent loft conversion project. We received the basic layout plans provided by the specialist loft company, developed these and created 3D renders to visualise our interior design plans for our clients, all of which you can see below. The designs are being executed on site […]

One aspect of modern living that comes up more and more in our interior design work these days, is utilising small spaces to maximum effect. With the rise of working from home in recent years, and a tough economy meaning children are living in the family home for longer, we’ve started seeing the need to […]

We had a wonderful day recently over on the stunning Pembrokeshire coast, visiting our recently completed Newgale project. An unusual feature of this project for us was that the design work was completed remotely. In fact, the first time we saw the property in real life was the day we visited to get the shots […]

The term ‘colour drenching’ is one that you’ve likely heard a lot recently. By no means a new concept, we’re not even sure we’d call it a ‘trend’, it has become popular in the past year as an interior design technique. Painting all walls, woodwork and ceiling the same colour (or shades of the same […]

So here we are, festivities in full swing and another year almost complete! It’s the time of year when the craziness of Christmas ramps up around us, while nature is telling us to slow down, retreat and rest. December can be a conflicting, exhausting month if we allow it to be. But more than ever, […]
