Oh how we love a fresh new year here at Hygge & Cwtch! We have a real soft spot for January. Weather-wise, yes it can be gloomy but when it’s good, boy is it good! Fresh, crisp and bright low sunshine make the daily dog walks a joy. But more than that, it’s the quiet Wintering period that we crave after a hectic festive season. No-one makes plans. The dark nights are an invitation to retreat and rest. Just like in nature, it’s our time to hibernate ready to emerge in the Spring. All of this quiet downtime gives us chance to reflect and look inwards, which is an essential step in both personal and professional growth.

This year, I really took the time to do the work and figure out exactly what it is that I want. What are my values, the vision for my life. What brings me joy and how can I do more of that. So I thought to kick off the year I would share my vision for 2025 and what that means both personally and for Hygge & Cwtch Design Studio.

Time to walk the hygge walk

I’ve always found so much joy in my work as an interior designer, helping my clients create beautiful, meaningful homes. The concept of hygge is very close to my heart as I truly believe that it’s a lifestyle which can bring us peace and contentment. It’s about life’s simple pleasures. An appreciation and connection to nature. A more sustainable way of living. It’s at the core of our interior design process as we strive to create homes which enable people to connect, thrive and simply enjoy being at home.

Towards the end of last year, I realised that although I have been busy helping others live their best lives at home, sharing the techniques and tips to enjoy a hygge life through my design work, I haven’t fully embraced it myself. I’ve had very little space or time to practice what I preach, mostly due to not quite realising and enforcing my own boundaries. How much work I take on and how much of myself I give to others, at the sacrifice of my own wellbeing. Something I’m sure resonates with many of you.

Sunset and street views in Copenhagen, a place we love and are visiting again in February. Leaning into my love of travel!

So for 2025, I’m going to walk the walk. Just as I encourage clients to lean into whatever it is that makes them happy, I’m going to practice doing the same. Taking a more selective approach to where I put my energy. Simplifying my life where I can, just as I do when working with my clients on their homes. Indulging of my love of travelling. Prioritising healthy connection to others and to myself, and tuning in regularly to what is serving me well and what isn’t. And this can’t be just a vision or a hope. I need to continue putting in the work and taking action to make it a reality.

Brand new ways to work with Hygge & Cwtch

I’m lucky in that I’ve found a way to make my passion my work. And so, with my personal goal for 2025 being to simply do more of what makes me happy, it made sense to start with my business.

A renewed clarity on what I wanted from Hygge & Cwtch made it so much easier to reshape my services. The core of our work will always be to create comfortable, meaningful and functional spaces. Bringing the colour, personality, nature inspiration and human-centred design. Environments can nourish us and aid our wellbeing and mental health, and that is exactly our goal with every single service on offer.

This year, I want to connect and work with clients in different ways, not just through full interior design projects. With this in mind we have created a new set of services. From the small yet powerful services of a Power Hour, Colour Consultancy, Styling Finishing Touches right through to Space Planning and full interior and exterior redesign. We want more people to have the opportunity to benefit from working with an interior designer, whether for your own home or a holiday let, so that’s what we’ve created.

Head to our Services page now to get started. Let’s make your home something truly special in 2025.

Feeding my soul (and bringing you along for the ride!)

As I set my intention this year to practice what I preach, I want to bring you along with me (if you’re interested!). I personally love seeing content which inspires me to create and seek out joy. I’m drawn to real people and real stories in every aspect of life. Even my preferred movies always take you on a journey with someone, experiencing their challenges and achievements. There’s something inspiring about the openness of it all.

So as I set out to focus on my passions and find my simple pleasures in life, I set up a new Instagram account to share my hygge journey and hopefully inspire others to do the same.

Sharing more of my journey on @hygge_and_me

My account @hygge_and_me is an open invitation to join me in looking for the love, light and beauty in the everyday, embracing good living to feel happy and healthy in our own skin. I see it almost like a visual journal, the journey of my own personal expansion. It will no doubt involve some interiors, especially sneak peeks of my own home and brands that I love. But there will also be a heavy dose of nature, self-care, indulging my love of skin care and my love of painting

Embracing these passions and rediscovering my creativity through art will make me an all-round healthier, happier human. I have confidence in prioritising myself for the first time in a long time after raising my boys and my business (which feels like a third child!) as I know I will be a more present Mum, wife, daughter, friend and business owner if some of my own needs have been met first. It’s an empowering realisation that I can serve myself just as well as I serve my Hygge & Cwtch clients!

I’m excited to spend more time creating art, like this painting of mine at our Heolgerrig project

Feeling inspired?

If any of this has inspired you in any way at all, I’d love to connect. Come and join me at @hygge_and_me or if you’re here for the interiors then @Hyggeandcwtchstudio has got you covered. And be sure to sign up to our monthly Edition newsletter where these two worlds collide!
